Odeon

The resurrection of the Odeon theatre as a performance space inspired this concept for a new performing arts educational facility. A singular vision to facilitate the different organisations, University of Canterbury Music faculty and arts bodies into a  joint consortium. Binding and future proofing our arts and education professionals throughout New Zealand.

The design pays homage to Canterbury's historical past while acknowledging the present and future. Depth, scale, proportion  all important. Splitting the building created a vacuum for a diagonal thoroughfare. This central pedestrian void dips in the middle exposing the basement level to natural light.

The 2010 earthquake has since almost destroyed the Odeon Theatre.
